About the Book

Following a devastating rebellion, the Watchers’ kingdom teeters on the brink of collapse. King Laim is turning to stone, spending his dwindling strength to keep ancient seals beneath the palace intact. With his disgraced brother Hiram hidden in the lightless underworld and the throne threatening to become a prison, Klay refuses to wait for the kingdom to fall.

He dives into the crushing depths, where magic is unpredictable and enemies are massing past the control of the realm above, to find Hiram. Klay has to confront the limits of his inherited power, and the cost of wielding something much more volatile. In a world held together by fragile foundations, his quest is a fight to stop the collapse of a kingdom, and to decide what he is willing to sacrifice to save it.
